Tibiotic Shades RAW

Inspired by nature's way of designing with minimum material offering maximum strength, Tibiotic Shades are a RAW output of algorithmic design which works similarly.


This is a study into the aesthetics of computational design, a peek into the future of CMF if such tools and 3D printing become mainstream in manufacturing.

Inspired by nature's way of designing with help of evolution and natural selection, Tibiotic Shades are an attempt to understand the aesthetics of computational design.


They were made using algorithms designed to support the lenses using minimum material and weight.

An exploration to understand what will products look like if they were designed using structural optimization tools.


This specific design looks like a bony, ribbed support structure.


So, if we completely design using optimization algorithms and 3D print our objects, will they start looking like they grew in nature?


Since nature uses evolution similarly and a super advanced additive manufacturing process, I'd bet on yes!

Analyzing the inputs, the algorithm provides structural suggestions over and over, giving a 3D mesh or voxel output.


The algorithm then optimize these outputs further, making them better, lighter and stronger.

There are inputs which the algorithm uses:

volume constraints to work within,

material property and load stress values,

dimensions for units of output forms,

etc.


Using this with the algorithm to provide structural suggestions multiple times gives a collection of outputs.


These feed off the best ones and optimize the structure further, making them better, lighter and stronger.
